    My birthday is next month

    Birthday Cow

Now that I just went on that Amazon.com shopping spree, Brendon asks me a valid question, “What do I want for my birthday?”  I’ve got to be honest.  I’m not really sure.  I thought about getting a new laptop or desktop or both, but two things caution me against that.  First, I’m also trying to sell a house and I’m going to lose money on that so I don’t want to spend all that money right before I have to spend ALL that money.  Secondly, I know that Vista is supposed to be out in January, Merom hardware is almost to market, the 802.11n specification is almost finalized, etc.  With all these hardware and software changes on the cusp of commercial availablility I’d rather wait six months or so before making any significant IT expenditures.

I work at a company where I get free CDs and DVDs (although, in fairness, most of them are crappy CDs and DVDs which are free b/c no one else wants them).  I have so many tshirts that whenever I bring a new one home Kim makes me throw out an old one.  I don’t really collect anything except dogs, apparently, and I don’t want any more of those.  Kim and I just got married and we received a ton of wedding presents (thank you everyone) that pretty much covered our needs for kitchen stuff and whatnot.

So I guess I’m out here asking – what am I not thinking about that I should be asking for?  I know that I can’t possibly have everything I want.  I must just be forgetting about whole categories of things I want.  Reminders?

As one gets older and more self sufficient, you will find that there is less you need to get as a gift. You simply get it when you need it. The nice gifts then become extravagences (things you don't need but are nice to have). Otherwise, you will be stuck with gag gifts. Of course, the one thing you probably need, we can't give you--more time to use the stuff you already have.
