Geek Dinner last night
Last night seven of us met at the 5 Seasons to talk about everything geeky. We talked about some code (mostly me bringing up my recent issues I've been covering in the blog), cellphones, video games in general, and more. Results of the conversation?
- The Enterprise Library's data access block code has been written for something other than performance. Not sure what that something is yet, but it's definitely not performance.
- Cellphones? Samsung's new RAZR clone is cool, but the RAZR itself is cool as long as you don't bother with the Cingular version of the OS. Verison has done something to the contacts list functionality to enable multiple details (numbers) per contact. However, you have to wait for some data service in April for the Bluetooth to become "de-crippled".
- Video game? We're in favor. The Xbox 360 gets rave reviews. The Sony PSP gets rave reviews but we're not sure we want to watch movies on the thing. Media Center through the 360 gets good reviews but something I've got no experience with about the music library interface isn't right (per Shawn). I want my 360!
- More? We talked about MP3 players, whether or not the iPod will last the test of time (ie the next few years), and of course the topic of DRM protected media.
Anyway - it was a great gathering. I won't mention names, but it was more than just Microsoft, MVPs and User Group leaders at this geek dinner!
